Performance Art Yoga is a series of yoga classes/artworks that call into question traditional formalist categories of artistic production. Through a yoga class followed by a performance art piece exploring the themes of the class the intention is that participants call into question traditional modes of behaviour inside arts spaces.
Additionally, Performance Art Yoga is an Artistic Research project through the University of Amsterdam aiming to investigate the role that the state of the body and degree of presence has upon the ways audiences receive artwork. Following Shivan’s research for the Performance Art Laboratory Silencio (silencio.ooo) on how much levels of priming and explanation affects the reception of artwork, it is her hypothesis that priming participants bodies and minds through yogic practices will increase their ability to engage with performance art as an energetic ephemeral exchange.

Performance Art Yoga trialed at the Queer Intimacy Festival in July 2024 and will be developed at the What is Happening Here Gallery in Amsterdam.
